Conemaugh Memorial Welcomes Emergency Medicine Physicians
October 11, 2016
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center welcomes board certified Emergency Medicine physicians Joshua Wayne Hinson, DO, FAAEM, and Melissa Lee Rosa, MD, FAAEM. Both physicians will be faculty for Conemaugh Memorial's Emergency Medicine Residency program.
Dr. Hinson is originally from Bedford, Pennsylvania and Dr. Rosa is from Bonaire, Georgia. They met while on active duty in the United States Air Force, and are engaged to be married. "Joining the Conemaugh team allows us to be closer to family in Bedford," says Hinson. "We chose Conemaugh, specifically, because of the well-established Graduate Medical Education program."
"We are thrilled to have Dr. Hinson and Dr. Rosa join our Emergency Medicine team," says Matthew Perry, DO, FAAEM, Director of Conemaugh Memorial's Emergency Medicine Residency Program. "They are both highly trained and educated, and will provide valuable knowledge to our current residents. They have tremendous clinical experience that will benefit the patients we see in the Emergency Department."
Dr. Hinson credits Dr. Perry with being instrumental in their decision to return to Conemaugh as faculty. "Dr. Perry and I completed a medical rotation together at Conemaugh Memorial," says Hinson. "It's nice that we can once again work together and help to educate Emergency Medicine residents."
"I love the variety of Emergency Medicine," says Rosa. "We get to treat patients from pediatrics through geriatrics. It's very rewarding to help patients of all ages." "Every day is different," adds Hinson.
Dr. Hinson is a graduate of Juniata College. He attended medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He completed an internship and Emergency Medicine Residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. Prior to coming to Conemaugh Memorial, Dr. Hinson was Emergency Medicine clinical faculty at the San Antonio Military Medical Center at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas, and adjunct clinical faculty at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been deployed through the Air Force and provided services for various missions including Operation Enduring Freedom.
Dr. Rosa is a graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She attended medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia, followed by an Emergency Medicine Residency at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina. Prior to coming to Conemaugh Memorial, Dr. Rosa was the Staff Selection Committee member, Clinical Competency Committee member, and Curriculum Director for the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium Emergency Medicine Residency program.
When not treating patients, Drs. Hinson and Rosa enjoy spending time outdoors and are avid sports fans. Dr. Hinson roots for all Pittsburgh sports teams and Dr. Rosa is following suit. "I will become a Steelers fan," she adds cheerfully. "I've started watching their games." The only sports controversy for now is when the Pittsburgh Pirates play the New York Mets. "I'm a Mets fan," says Rosa. "So our only sports dispute is during baseball games."
