Conemaugh Physician Group Welcomes Medical Oncologist / Hematologist

Conemaugh Physician Group – Oncology is pleased to welcome Sheetal Higbee, MD to its practice. Dr. Higbee will be seeing inpatients at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, and outpatients at the Conemaugh Cancer Care Center.
Originally from near Baltimore, MD, Dr. Higbee was drawn to Conemaugh Memorial because of the patient population and her love for the outdoors. “It’s beautiful here,” says Higbee. “My husband and I love the outdoors. We were looking for a small town with outdoor activities and Johnstown is the perfect place for both.”
Dr. Higbee loves the science behind medical oncology, and finds working with patients to be very rewarding. “When working with cancer patients, you’re involved in a very intimate part of their life,” says Higbee. “I love talking with patients, educating them about their illness, and helping them to improve. I have the privilege of meeting their families and developing a close relationship with my patients.”

Dr. Higbee attended medical school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. She completed Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, followed by an Internal Medicine Residency at Albany Medical Center at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. She completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Maryland Marlene and Steward Greenebaum Cancer Center in Baltimore, MD. Research she has conducted focuses on hematologic malignances, including leukemia and lymphoma.
Dr. Higbee is board certified in Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Medical Society, American College of Physicians, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, and the American Association of Clinical Cancer Research.
Dr. Higbee and her husband, a businessman, enjoy mountain biking, skiing, and enjoying the outdoors.
