Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center is a host site of more than 200 annual medical student from all over the United states including Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, West Virginia.  The majority of these students attend school at Drexel University College of Medicine, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  The rotations are arranged with each student's institution. A limited number of rotation opportunities are available for medical students from other states but the student's medical school must be accredited by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association. Pennsylvania law prohibits clinical clerkships by students from other medical schools. 

Medical students develop skills through structured education and supervised clinical experiences. In this medical-student friendly environment, faculty and resident supervisors mentor and encourage students to maximize their rotation experiences. With this in mind, students are required to participate in grand rounds, morning reports, and in-house educational lectures.

Conemaugh does not offer observerships, externships, shadowing or research assistant positions in the medical student program. 

Medical Students interested in an audition rotation in General Surgery at our facility should complete an application.

Requirements:

Complete the application and email all required documents (i.e. comlex/uslme scores and CV) inquiries to the Program Coordinator llambers@conemaugh.org

Once rotation has been scheduled and confirmed you must provide

  • Required background clearances - you must allow enough time to receive results
    • PA State Police Criminal Record Check
    • PA Child Abuse History
    • FBI/PA Department of Human Services
    • PA Department of Aging (if you have not lived in Pennsylvania for the past 2 years)- (this takes a minimum of 8 weeks for results) 

Please note: We do not sponsor any VISA candidates. U.S. Citizen or green card students/applicants only.

A Program Letter of Agreement is also necessary prior to the rotation.  If one is not on file with the hospital, allow 3 months.
